JULY 2010
‘The Lustre of Gold’- Art Exhibition by
Gordon Hanley
Exhibition open from Thursday 15th – Sunday 18th July 2010,
10am – 5pm at Morpeth Gallery (5 Green Street,
Morpeth).
Gordon Hanley is currently in talks with Rolf Harris’
publicist who wants his work to be exhibited in Rolf’s London Gallery UK as
well as Louis K. Meisel Gallery,
in Boston USA. That makes
this exhibit at Morpeth Gallery a priority to visit. Gordon Hanley will be
there to show you how he draws his Goldpoints.
This exhibition will include Watercolours and Oil paintings as well as
his Metalpoints. The editor of Artists’ Palette magazines is writing 3
separate stories on his artwork following interviews with Gordon. The first will cover his special technique to
paint watercolours which she says is the greatest breakthrough in watercolour
technique she has seen in all the years she has been editor.
The last story will be on the 600 year old revival of
Metalpoint art, which has not been seen since the 15th
and 16th Century, when Leonardo Da Vinci
& Michelangelo drew portraits using this amazing technique that was
rendered obsolete by the 18th century. Diversely talented, Gordon has taught
himself and perfected metal point drawing.
His drawings include portraits of the human form, wildlife & still
life.

JUNE 2010
Ian Morphy's Chutney & Relish Tastings
During the month of June you are in for a treat at Morpeth Ginger Beer Factory & Gourmet Foods, where tastings of their Chilli/Lime or Ginger Beer cordial, brewed on the premises will warm you up, for the main event…a chutney and relish tasting of grand proportions.
Chutney is delicious with hot and cold meats, as a side with a cheese platter, thinned as a glaze or dolloped on salad or to add flavour to slow cooked casseroles. The 13 chutneys you will taste are superior to many others, because of who created them and what goes into them. Ian Morphy was a food critic for the Michelin Awards, before he moved from England to the Hunter Valley and began the Old George & Dragon Restaurant just outside Morpeth which he and his wife Jenny ran for 25 years before retiring. With his emphasis on Anglo French food, rich sauces with game dishes in the winter and fish & shellfish dishes in the summer, Ian is recognized as being responsible for making the Hunter what it is today – a combined destination for thousand’s of visitors interested in good food and wine.
After retirement and unused to having so much time on his hands, Ian began bottling and selling his magnificent chutney’s and relishes, that he used every day in the restaurant, as condiments, sauces and glazes. Ian’s Beetroot & Orange Chutney is the perfect fit for duck and venison, the Chestnut & Fennel Chutney divine with blue cheese, whilst his Piccalilli Chutney (with big chunks of cauliflower, zucchini & green beans) pays homage to his English heritage.
Where possible Ian uses ingredients sourced locally. Spicy Asparagus Chutney contains asparagus grown at Hinton, just 5 minutes from Morpeth. It was bottled the day it was picked! Tomatoes and pumpkins, cauliflowers are harvested from the fertile farmland paddocks, surrounding Morpeth.
After taste testing them all, purchase three of Ian’s chutney’s or relish at $9 each during the month of June and we’ll gift you a mini kitchen utensil, valued at up to $5. Visit Morpeth Ginger Beer Factory, 5 Green Street, Morpeth or phone them on 4933 1407.
